Overview
The three leading causes of death in Japan are stroke, heart disease, and cancer — with lung cancer ranking first among cancers. While lifestyle changes and smoking may be contributing factors, it is also because current medical technology cannot guarantee a cure for all patients. At our hospital, we work to achieve early detection using sputum cytology, chest X-rays, tumor markers, CT, and MRI. For respiratory conditions such as bronchial asthma, emphysema, and pulmonary fibrosis — including those caused by environmental or occupational factors, post-stroke aspiration pneumonia, and conditions with unidentified causes — we provide inhalation therapy, vaccination against pneumonia and influenza, oxygen therapy, and ongoing management.
All patient rooms in our department are equipped with oxygen piping, enabling immediate response to acute respiratory failure.
However, treating the three major diseases and managing lifestyle-related conditions (such as gastric ulcers, alcoholic liver disease, gallstones, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hyperuricemia) cannot be handled by our department alone. We work closely with other departments, as well as private clinics, community hospitals, and public medical institutions throughout Hachinohe to ensure appropriate treatment. As these conditions are more common among the elderly, we remain committed to addressing the challenges of healthcare and nursing care in an aging society.
In recent years, traditional medicine (including Kampo herbal medicine) has been attracting renewed attention worldwide. Our department has long incorporated Kampo prescriptions in the treatment of respiratory and skin conditions with positive results, and also actively applies Kampo therapy to autonomic nervous system disorders and vague complaints.
